#kazan\u03c4\u03af<\/em><\/p>\n A theatre performance by\u00a0Natalia Panagiotou, Annie Sofocleous, Despina Chrysanthou<\/p>\n In search of clearing out our roots and Cypriot identity, we observe a confusion (\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd\u03c4\u03ac\u03bd\u03c9\u03bc\u03b1) and diversity of perspectives. This tragicomic identity confusion and disorientation brought up \u00abkazanti\u00bb, the traditional Cypriot lucky game. The multicultural figure of kazanti is in constant movement, a form of displacement, somehow managing to always be present in mass gatherings all over the island. With a humorous approach, Yasemin Collective creates a theatrical performance that questions the meaning of game and luck. In Turkish, \u00abkazanmak\u00bb means \u2018win, acquire wealth\u2019 (\u03ba\u03b1\u03b6\u03b1\u03bd\u03c4\u03af\u03b6\u03c9=\u03c0\u03bb\u03bf\u03c5\u03c4\u03af\u03b6\u03c9). What is it we are winning if it is to do with an award, in a conflict, with territory or with love?<\/p>\n \u0393\u03b9\u03b1\u03c3\u03b5\u03bc\u03af\u03bd (Yasemin) is a local newborn artistic collective whose aim is to set Art free from its traditional settings to involve marginalised spectators and participants, where the benefits of Art wouldn\u2019t normally reach them otherwise. Just like the native plant jasmine, the collective wants to allow Art to \u2018smell\u2019 in the whole island to all communities that live in and consider Cyprus their home. Three of the members of Yasemin, Natalia Panagiotou, Annie Sofocleous and Despina Chrysanthou, whose paths crossed recently, view Arts as a catalyst for social change.
