Nicosia, Cyprus — On Wednesday 5th of November, the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research (AHDR) and the Home for Cooperation (H4C), hosted a working lunch bringing together representatives of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the Deputy Foreign Minister Ms. Astrid Bergmål, the Director General of the Department for European Affairs and Trade Policy Mr. Frode O. Andersen, Ambassador of Norway in Athens, Ms. Harriet E. Berg, as well as representatives from the embassy and the EEA/Norway Grants Financial Mechanism Office. The delegation met with the AHDR and H4C management as well as educators and students who have engaged in intercommunal projects, highlighting the catalytic work being done by the organizations towards the empowerment of educators, students, and civil society.
Held at the Home for Cooperation, the session provided an opportunity for donors and the organizations’ representatives and beneficiaries to connect and reflect on how educational and cultural initiatives contribute to fostering historical dialogue, mutual understanding, and reconciliation across Cyprus’ communities. The participating students and teachers highlighted how their participation in AHDR’s project activities has shaped their perspectives and empowered them to contribute to peacebuilding efforts within their schools and communities. Participants emphasized the critical role that H4C plays as a shared space, enabling constructive dialogue and educational innovation in an in-between space.
The meeting was concluded with the organizations’ representatives reaffirming their commitment to continue empowering communities through opportunities that foster reconciliation, critical thinking, and cooperation.
“It was an important moment for both the AHDR and H4C to hear from our beneficiaries in the presence of our donors the impact and resonance of our work, in the precarious times we are experiencing. On our side, we are restating our commitment to continue nurturing and fostering spaces of exchange, understanding, and resilience for the communities of Cyprus”, Andri Christofides H4C Executive Manager.
