“The city as a stage: Intersections of Arts and Activism in Nicosia”

A Buffer Fringe Walk by Demetra Ignatiou and Melek Kaptanoğlu

Join us for a walk across the walled city of Nicosia tracing the creative and artistic endeavours of grassroots initiatives and social movements, artists and activists. We will look at attempts of collaboration and share narratives of place-making and creativity in the city. We invite participants to explore how people activate urban space through art and imagination, claiming space for co-existence and peace.

The Home for Cooperation’s Nicosia walks, organized with the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research, are a meaningful shared experience for those who wish to explore Nicosia through a different lens, often discovering aspects of our city that may not always be visible. This walk, co-curated by Demetra and Melek, explores art, cultural production, identity, and the reclaiming of public space across the divide in Nicosia’s urban space.

WHEN: Friday 2nd of October 2026, 16:00-18:00

WHERE: We meet at the Home for Cooperation and walk together, across the divide. The walk concludes at CYENS Centre of Excellence, where the first Festival performance begins!

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW:

– Participation is free but registration is necessary

– Spots are very limited so register on time!

– A valid ID/passport is required to attend the walk (we will be crossing the UN buffer zone)

– The walk will be in English
