Are you a teacher ready to inspire change? Join this workshop by University of Reading, connecting Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot teachers. Together we can enhance dialogue, promote understanding and build bridges between communities.
This workshop is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UK).
Who can participate:
- Adults 18–60 years old
- Must be secondary school teacher specialising in Humanities or Social Sciences (e.g. Languages, History, Geography, Arts, etc)
An incentive in the form of a €50 voucher will be offered as a compensation for your time and contribution to the project.
Programme
- 9.00-9.40 Welcome, registration & coffee
- 9.45-10.30 Multilingualism in public spaces: How languages on public signs can unveil identities, ideologies and power relations in conflict-ridden communities (Lecture)
- 10.30-11.00 Coffee break & Networking
- 11.00-11.45 Experiencing the public space of divided Nicosia (Walking tours)
- 12.00–13.30 Using public spaces as educational opportunities (Workshop)
- 13.30-15.00 Lunch
